GLOOMY SATURDAY AS ALL FOUR SIDES LOSE, BUT SUPER JOSH TON EARNS SUNDAY XI WIN

KICC 1st XI 177 All Out lost to CAYTHORPE 179-8

Caythorpe edge home in tight finish

The 1st XI narrowly failed to overcome league leaders Caythorpe in a game that went right down to the wire. Kimberley's total of 177-9 seemed below par, despite a gritty 48 from Tom Collishaw and a determined knock of 36 from Nick Langford. The home side bowled well on a slow wicket and there were three wickets apiece for Tom Hemmings and Jimmy Hindson.

Kimberley made a great start by dismissing Ogrizovic and Sabey with the score only at 11. A 45 run stand then ensued before Josh Mangan trapped Hindson in front for 20. Opener Russell Warren was still there and together with Botha added a further valuable 59 runs for the fourth wicket, before the latter also fell to Mangan for 20. Warren had moved nicely on to 76 before becoming the second of Richard Adams' three victims (3-53). 139-6 gave Kimberley hope, but 19 from Sam Powell took Caythorpe nearer their target, before he was bowled by Jason Gorman (3-53). And it was Gorman who came in to bowl the final over, with the home side requiring 7 for victory. Despite bowling Billy Wright for 12, James Hemmings hit his first ball for four and the winning runs off the penultimate ball.

BELVOIR 1st XI 206 All Out beat KICC 2nd XI 100 All Out

Dyer performance sinks seconds

A disappointing batting performance saw the 2nd XI well beaten by Belvoir on Newdigate Street. Andy Platts put the vistors in and must have been delighted to see Belvoir at 49-4, thanks to two wickets apiece for Luke Tantum and Danny Williams. However, James Clayfield (58) and James Fellows (62) then added a telling stand of 109 for the fifth wicket, before the returning Williams broke the stand. Craig Pitts then chipped in with 3-48 and Williams ended proceedings to end with 4-42.

Belvoir's total of 206 was attainable with the short boundary to one side, but the home sides innings was soon in disarray as Tony Dyer took four wickets in his first eight overs. At 29-5 Kimberley were as good as done for and although Platts top scored with 19, Dyer returned to mop up the tail, ending with a fine 6-32 as Kimberley crumbled to 100 all out.

KICC 3rd XI 88 All Out lost to RISLEY 2nd XI 92-6

Thirds slip up in low scorer

The 3rd XI eventually got their season under way, but soon found themselves floundering at 7-3 after being asked to bat first by Risley. The notoriously difficult Stapleford pitch saw Kimberley slip further to 34-5 and then 64-9. Matt Ross (17) and last man Ian Shepherd with 14 helped the home side scrape a total of 88 all out.

After reaching 25 without loss in reply, Risley themselves saw wickets tumble. 3-20 from Sam Freeman and 2-8 from Neil Johnson had the vistors in trouble at 59-6. But an undeafeted 22 from Sibbering was enough to see Risley home to a four wicket success.

SNIBSTON GRANGE 2nd XI 150 All Out beat KICC 4th XI 132 All Out

Nearly, but not quite for fourths

On a hot afternoon at Coalville, the ten Kimberley players faced a toiling afternoon in the field after inserting Snibston. Tom Beale bowled well and he was to end with 3-32 as the home side limped to 86-4. But a stubborn innings of 65 from Kirk eventually lifted Snibson to 150 all out. Marcus Beale bowled nine tidy overs for 2-19, Becky Widdowson 1-17 from 8 and Domonic Brown delivered four economical overs without success. The Snibston total was boosted by an extravagant sum of 52 extras.

Marcus Beale got Kimberley off to a flyer and he had scored 36 of the first 39 runs scored before being second out. Son Tom took up the mantle with a fluent 25, but after his dismissal Kimberley were on the back foot. When Paul Richardson was dismissed for 12, the score was only 100 with one wicket remaining. Rebecca Widdowson bravely tried to salvage the situation, but her unbeaten club best of 23 was not quite enough as Belvoir triumphed by 18 runs.

RADCLIFFE ON TRENT 202-4 lost to KICC Sunday XI 203-6

Aussie stars in the sun

On a glorious afternoon at Radcliffe, the home side chose to bat first on a dry, flat track. After a patient start, openers Frank Brown and Ian Dodd took the score to 61 before Brown was smartly stumped by Adam Meads off Danny Williams for 27 in the 17th over. Dodd moved on to an 85 ball fifty, but Brad Moses found the boundary seven times before being stumped off Luke Tantum for 38. Dodd then picked up the momentum in impressive style and raced through to a superb undefeated 119, as Radcliffe passed 200 in the final over.

Kimberley were equally patient in their reply, with Paldip Sidhu falling for 13 in the 12th over. Richard Maxwell was then joined by Josh Mangan to form a significant partnership. Maxwell was first to his fifty, before falling short of his grond in the run chase for 57. Their stand had posted 109 runs in good time. By now, Aussie Mangan was in full flow, dancing down the wicket and picking off the spin attack with ease. With the run rate now well in hand, he recorded a magnificent maiden career ton, ending undefeated on 105 from just 87 balls faced, hitting the winning run with 10 balls to spare.
